Disobedience or obedience to God’s law.
“And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: 2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God,” (Deut 28:1-2).
- Blessing or curses in a Person’s life.
- God said to him in Genesis.
“That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the ate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice,” (Gen. 22:17-18).
The cause for Abraham’s blessing was that he heard and obeyed the voice of God.
- The basic cause for curses is stated in (Deut. 28:15). “But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day, that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee. . . .”
Therefore, the root cause of all curses is not hearing and not obeying God’s Word.
- Notice that both curses and blessings “overtake” us.
- We do not really have to chase them.
- We must fulfill the conditions, either positive or negative.
- If we do the positive requirement: The blessings overtake us.
- We cannot go so fast that they will not overtake us!
If we do the negative requirement: The curses overtake us. It does not matter how hard we try.
“And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee,” (Deut. 7:13).

I’am just wondering if the curses are for real cause i believe my family is cursed since a long time ago. My mom and Dad had 8kids 5 boys and 3 girls iam the smallest girl. Everthing started when my sister past away in a house fire in Chicago Ill in 1974 she was 4yrs old so my family moved to Tx i guess to start a new life around 1995 or so my parents got divorced my dad left my mom for another girl. Then in 2001 the smallest of the boys had a car accent and past away 6months later so that just left 4boys and 2girls in 2007 my older sister had an abuseive boyfriend and he killed her in Mexico he bit her to death, 7months later on the 4th july in 2008 the kill one of the oldest boys they shot him and he died on the way to the hospital so that just leaves 3 boys and 1 girl me so i believe my family is cursed i am just scared its not over my mom cant handle anymore suffering if you can recomend something i should so i pray to our lord Jesus is that enough? Please help us out. thanks for reading my story.
