Spiritual Nourishment – The Word of God

by Pastor Pat Holliday

Hebrews 4:12:For the word of God is living, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

In reading the word of God, I believe I have received the spirit of discernment, however, I was tested today in front of my classroom. A guidance counselor came to my room to present information to students. He asked me to read a poem. The poem was written by a well known new age spiritist. I knew this and I read the poem to my students but omitting the author of the poem. I know better. Being placed on the spot is an excuse and I could have said no but I read the poem anyway and to 2 classes. I found the short poem innocuous with a double-meaning. The poem mentions God, but I knew which God however I believe my students did not and that is good. Please pray that the next time I am tested I will be strong in the Holy Spirit. I feel awful. This is a testament to the importance of staying in the word, having a personal relationship with Christ, and inviting the Holy Spirit into our daily lives. I pray that all who are placed in similar situations to be strong in the spirit. Amen.
